The ImbayakunasThe Imbayakunas' music allows the listener to escape on an exotic voyage to a South American traditional Native community. Our musical intention is to share the rich sounds of the Andean regions. In Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia traditional music is the privileged expression of 20 million Quechua and 4 million Aymaras.
Our music ranges from the traditional sounds of Yarabi, San Juan, Albasos, Tinkus, Huaynos, Tobas, Taquiraris and Sayas to the more contemporary sounds of Cumbias, Bombas, Rumbas and Ballads. We play traditional Andean Native music with an infusion of Latin and European sounds. |
Lady SonOne of the most arresting voices on the Canadian music scene, often drawing comparisons to music legend Celia Cruz, Lady Son (aka Yeti Ajasin), brings a powerful yet gentle contemporary voice to the rich vocal and percussion traditions of Afro-Cuban music -- with messages of everyday life, love and the issues that affect us all. Her 2009 debut album, “Semillas”, received the New Music Award for Best World Album, and is now embarking on a second album that layers a broader range of musical and cultural styles over her husky, commanding vocals, potent percussion and supremely skilled backing band; all informed by her uniquely multicultural Nigerian, Italian and Jewish background.

Alexander BrownBorn in Cuba the trumpeter, composer, arranger, and musical director Alexander Brown showed an early and avid interest in music. He was steeped in trumpet playing from an early age. Finally, after so many years of musical studies, he graduated from the Instituto Superior de Artes. Later on, he had the opportunity to tour worldwide. He performed as a special guest of a well-conceived musical project paying homage to the great conguero Chano Pozo, performing alongside the master percussionists that have developed the sound of Cuban music: Jose Luis Quintana "Changuito" and the late Tatagüines.
